Looking back, I regret how much time I spent worrying in my life. I’ve worried about my debt, my kids, horrible diseases, bad relationships, being laid off, my home always in perfect condition. Thank goodness, panic away came to my rescue!
Not only does worry accomplish nothing, it makes you focus in the wrong direction. And of course, excessive worry leads to anxiety.
Do you want to spend your whole time needlessly worrying?? The only thing worrying was doing was stressing me out so I finally decided to stop, regroup and adopt the strategies to live a more enjoyable life. And believe me, it works! Let’s take a look now at how we can stop worrying less:
- Take action on what you can change and learn to accept what you cannot change.
- If a problem seems to big break it down into smaller steps. Don’t go fast forward and worry about steps 2, 3, and 4 until you’ve accomplished step 1. This one was hard for me.
- Write down an alternative thought to the worry that is more positive and realistic.
- Learn how to breathe. Breathe in slowly to the count of five and breathe out slowly to the count of five. Do this for 5 minutes.
- Accept uncertainty. We all want to have everything planned out and know the future well in advance but that’s not possible, so relax and take it one day at a time.
- Don’t constantly talk about your problems it makes it too easy for you to feel sorry for yourself.
- When you’ve done your best to deal with a situation, stop analyzing, let it go and go on to the next thing. This one was hard for me too.
- When you catch yourself worrying use the finger cut across the neck motion to stop yourself and change your thought.
- Try to think of problems as opportunities to take action.
- Keep the faith. Give those anxious or worrisome thoughts to a force greater than yourself.
Get Real – Ask yourself these questions:
• If a friend had this worry what would I say?
• How is worrying about the situation helping me?
• Are my worrisome thoughts true or not true?
• What am I scared of?

Your water intake is essential to keeping your body healthy and to ease anxiety symptoms.
Every organ in the body heavily depends on water to function properly and to its capacity. We are mostly water. The human body is 69% water. The brain is 85% water, bones 35% water, blood 83% water and the liver 90% water. (Resource: Watershed Wellness Center)
A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, and difficulty focusing and it is estimated that 75% of Americans are dehydrated. With hectic schedules it may be hard to drink 8 glasses of water daily so try to keep your water bottle handy at all times. When you experience “thirst” it’s already a sign that your body is dehydrated. Make sure you don’t overdo it on your alcoholic beverages or caffeinated drinks; they actually dehydrate you that’s why with alcohol you get that terrible ‘hangover’because your body is crying out for water.
Signs of Moderate Dehydration
-Dry, sticky mouth
-Fatigue
-Thirsty
-Dark urine
-Headache
-Dizzy or lightheaded
How to Stay Hydrated
-Drink 6-8, 8-ounce glasses of pure water every day.
-Try to drink every 30 minutes, especially first thing in the morning, it will help you feel energized, even if you don’t feel thirsty
-Avoid too much caffeinated drinks or alcohol.
-Water will also help keep your weight in check. Drinking 8 glasses of day will help you to feel more full.
-Herbal teas count too as long as there not diuretic.
Dehydration can wreak havoc with your emotions by contributing significantly to fatigue, headaches, irritability and nervousness. It is critical to note that dehydration can easily contribute to nervousness and anxiety. Keeping the body functioning at its prime and well hydrated regular water intake is crucial in subduing the anxiety or panic attacks.
